Our history
The Michigan Muslim Coalition has a rich history of organizing and mobilizing the Muslim community across Michigan.
Evolving through various names and organizational structures, such as the Federation of Islamic Organizations, the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan, the Islamic Shura Council of Michigan, and the Michigan Muslim Community Council, the coalition has consistently worked towards uniting Muslim voices and efforts.
The achievements of this coalition are vast, including the establishment of the Michigan Imam's Council, the Sunni and Shia Unity pledge, organizing the annual Michigan Muslim Capitol Days, and implementing significant initiatives like the Oedhiya/Qurbani meat distributions and food aid relief during crises such as Covid and government shutdowns.
The coalition has also been instrumental in awarding annual recognition to interfaith partners and in fields like civic service and journalism, as well as spearheading Ramadan hunger-fighting projects, and offering training programs for local Muslim non-profits and masjids.
With each challenge, the Michigan Muslim Coalition has adapted and grown, now representing a broad collection of activists and leaders from across Michigan. Our history is a testament to our resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to serving the Muslim community and the broader society.
